The FreshBlender needed a way to detect if a cup was placed under the dispenser, preventing the machine from wasting product.
Our Solution
BlueSparq built an IR cup detection system that incorporated AI to detect and dispense to the correct cup size. When you place a cup in the FreshBlender it automatically detects the size of the cup placed underneath and pours accordingly. The system is a two board set, made up of a transmitter and a receiver. The system contains six IR beams arranged vertically to properly detect the size of the cup placed under the dispenser. The system also contains embedded AI to constantly adapt to possible different states that the cup may be in. Everytime the machine detects a cup it is getting smarter, increasing the accuracy of cup detection.
