Develop a glass capacitive touch lighted keypad to control a high end laser system.

Our Solution

BlueSparq developed a glass capacitive touch lighted keypad to control a high end laser system. This keypad has an integrated TFT LCD panel that provides feedback information from the laser system. The keypad is a dead-fronted capacitive touch keypad, when the lights are off the keypad looks black. The keypad has selective lighting, which allows only specific parts of the keypad to be illuminated at a time. The keypad integrated existing joystick technology and also controlled machine lighting. With those additions it turned the keypad into the entire control system for the laser system.

Since the keypad needs electronics not only to illuminate the buttons, but also scan the buttons, a microcontroller is embedded into the onboard circuit board. Since the onboard electronics contain a microcontroller we design the keypad to utilize as much of the computing power as possible from the on board electronics. Adding as much functionality as possible into the microcontroller, reducing the overall cost of the system. In a lot of cases, our keypad contains the entire brains for the whole product.
